As a mom who had to use liquid formula, Dr. Brown's Bottle Warmer was the top-recommended product I heard of using.Mainly, we got Dr. Brown's Milk Spa Bottle Warmer. We had to switch from the powder formula to liquid. It made my son too gassy, and we had to find a solution to decrease his discomfort.

We chose Dr. Brown's because we had all of their bottles. So for us, it made the most sense to pick a system that has the best compatibility. There are plenty of bottle warmers that fit most bottles, and Dr. Brown's is the same. Most bottle warmers provide bottle tops from different companies. So you shouldn't worry if your bottles from another company will fit Dr. Brown's.

Why we chose Dr. Brown's Milk Spa Bottle Warmer

Dr. Brown's Milk Spa Bottle Warmer is designed to preserve nutrients in breast milk, so we knew it would do the same for liquid formula. Its also been mentioned in the best bottle warmer for breast milk and best baby bottle warmer by many mommy vloggers. When picking a bottle warmer, we wanted to pick something similar to how would work the best if we needed to reheat breastmilk.

If you don't know what happens after you initially expressed breast milk (whether you are pumping or expressing breast milk), you put it in the refrigerator or freezer. You take it out to warm it; you naturally lose many nutrients in the breast milk through the reheating process.

Losing nutrients in milk can be problematic. Because the point of freezing the breast milk is to give it to your child later, but if there is no nutritional value to it, then it's no point in giving them the milk.

Picking a bottle warmer designed to preserve nutrients is critical because you want to make sure you are not putting all your efforts into warming the milk only for it not to serve your baby.

First Impressions of the Bottle Warmer

It's pretty simple to plug it in, and on the outside, it seems simple enough—nothing out of the ordinary. We have bottles that have both a natural neck and a wide neck, and both of them have the same diameter. Everything else with the bottle warmer seems pretty self-explanatory regarding its instructions and look.

It's a twist-off top, so it's pretty easy to handle. You can push the buttons on the front of the machine, and it lights. It's a bright blue light, and you can easily see the setting. When you open the top, you can see where the water line is of where to add the max amount.

The front of the machine, where the main controls are, shows you everything you need to operate the bottle warmer. It shows how many ounces, the timer, and the temperature. If you need to defrost, for example, frozen breast milk, you would click on the machine to the menu that you need. It's straightforward to follow, and with the buttons being so clear, the user experience is excellent overall; I would highly recommend getting this bottle warmer.

Another cool thing about the machine is that it can handle three different types of bottles: glass, 4, and 11-ounce bottles, so you never have to worry about your bottle not fitting in the machine.

Dr. Brown's Bottle Warmer How to Use

Since my son is on the liquid formula, it almost mirrors breast milk regarding consistency, so if you are looking for a significant comparison, here we go. Below are some easy-to-follow Dr Brown's bottle warmer instructions as best practices.

  • Pour however many ounces you need into the bottle. They are specially made caps you put on top of the bottle since you are instructed not to put the bottle in the warmer with the nipple still on it.
    • Not putting the nipple on the bottle in the warmer makes sense because you don't want the nipple to get hot and burn your baby.
  • If you haven't done so, make sure to fill the bottle warmer with water. There is a line in the machine's base where you should fill the water up to and not pass that line. Giving that line can lead to leakage.
    • The instructions recommend using distilled or purified water since it doesn't have the impurities and minerals of tap, but use what you have. If you don't have filtered water, using bottled water is your next best option. Here are some affordable options for distilled and purified water in bulk.
  • Put the bottle warmer back on top of the base (if you haven't done so) and insert the bottle back on going to preset it for the heating instructions so that we can warm the milk.
  • When you turn the machine on, it will automatically show a preset room temperature. You will want to change the machine's settings to fit your needs.
    • Example: If you have room temperature milk, you will click on the settings to change it to match the ounces you need.
  • Click the start button, and now your bottle will begin to warm based on the settings you have selected.

Best Portable Bottle Warmer

After your bottle is finished warming, you can take it out and test to see if it's at the temperature you like. I recommend trying on the inside of your wrist to make sure you are comfortable with the temperature.

From personal experience, there have been times when I would put the bottle into the machine, and the milk was cold. If this happens, the device needs more water, and you need to add some into the machine. If you continue to have this issue, it's time for a new appliance.

Since the machine is small and compact, you can bring the device everywhere. It doesn't take up a lot of counter space, and it travels very easily. If you take this on flights, you will have to put it in your checked bags. However, there is no issue with it going through security.

The machine cleans very easily as well. Soap and water do the best, but submerging the device in water is not recommended. Just a wipe-down of the inside of the machine weekly is what I would recommend to keep down on the dirt and build-up.

You will probably have to refill the machine with atter every few days for younger infants. As your infant turns into a toddler, you can go much longer without having to fill your device up with water as much.
